Harris County deputies capture man wanted in Jefferson County after escape, search

HOUSTON - by KHOU 11 News and

Harris County Sheriffs Office deputies captured an inmate on Monday evening after a two-hour search. The man ran from deputies as they were trying to book him into the jail in downtown Houston on Monday.

It happened shortly after 5 p.m. near the intersection of Commerce Street and North San Jacinto Street.

Deputies said Johnathon Richmond, 29, was in handcuffs when he ran from the patrol car in which he had been transported. He fled after a deputy removed him from the patrol car, investigators said.

Richmond had been arrested in Harris County on a larceny warrant issued in Jefferson County, deputies said.

The Houston Police Department and K-9 units assisted with the search.
