Entergy cutting 40 jobs in Beaumont, 800 company-wide
BEAUMONT - Entergy is planning to cut about 40 jobs in Beaumont as part of a company-wide reduction of 800 jobs, including 115 in Texas, according to information Entergy has provided to KFDM News.
According to the company, the layoffs are part of a "redesign of the organization" meant to create "sustainable savings." It estimates savings of about $200 million to $250 million by 2016.
Entergy is cutting about 40 jobs in Beaumont by the end of the year, including a call center downtown with about a dozen workers. Entergy will open a new call center in Jackson, Mississippi in 2016.
It's reducing the workforce in The Woodlands by 60.
The company began meeting with employees Tuesday to inform them of the changes.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Entergy Corp. says it plans to cut 800 jobs - nearly one-third of them in Louisiana, where the bulk of its employees live.
Spokesman Chanel Lagarde says layoffs have begun and should be completed this year.
He says Entergy is committed to keeping its headquarters in New Orleans.
Lagarde says 240 Louisiana job cuts include about 160 in the New Orleans area. That's about 6 percent of Entergy's metro-area jobs and 5 percent statewide. Louisiana layoffs make up 30 percent of the total.
Arkansas would lose about 165 jobs, Texas 115 and New York 110. Most states would lose 4 percent to 6 percent of their Entergy workers; Texas would lose about 10 percent.
Mississippi stands to lose 80 jobs, while Massachusetts, Michigan and Vermont about 30 each.
It is estimated the company will save about $200 million to $250 million by 2016.
