Pastor released after posting bond on charge of murdering nephew
NEWTON COUNTY - by Ashley Gaston - The Pastor is now out of jail after posting bond a $100,000 bond on a charge of murder.
Newton county law enforcement officers say 64 year old Luther Jones killed his nephew Sunday morning outside Belgrade Baptist church in Bon Wier.
Investigators say the pastor fired several shots at 34 year old Curtis P. Jones. Jones' sister told KFDM news the men were involved in what she called a long running feud.
Deputies aren't releasing a lot of information about a possible motive. Late this afternoon, The Sheriff told KFDM news Luther Jones admitted shooting his nephew.

It's a tight knit community. People who live in Belgrade in Bon Wier say their neighbors are either relatives or friends they've know a long time.
It very well complicates the situation, when you're dealing with a family situation, said Sheriff Eddie Shannon.
The area outside a church in this small community turned into a murder scene Sunday morning.
Horrific scene bad situation, we're going to deal with it as delicately as we can, said Sheriff Shannon.
Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon said a long running family feud ended with Pastor Luther Jones shooting his nephew Curtis Jones.
Sheriff Shannon said the pastor opened fire, in front of the Belgrade Baptist Church somewhere about here. But they found Curtis Jones slumped over dead in the front seat of his vehicle, wrecked out several hundred yards away.
A relative of the victim says after the shooting Curtis Jones SUV crossed the Farm Road, rolled through a field and crashed into a tree.
I'm sure he felt that his life threatened in some way, harms or danger. If not he would have used another means to resolve the situation, said Pastor Charles Foster.
Pastor Charles Foster has known reverend jones his entire life. He spent the morning visiting with Jones after jones posted bond and was released from jail.
He's broken right now, really torn, have to have a lot of healing right now for he and his wife, said Foster.
Foster says he's hoping to unite the divided Jones family while the Sheriff's Department tries to learn more about what led to the shooting.
Reverend Luther Jones has been the pastor of Belgrade Baptist church for at least 30 years.
He told Pastor Foster he is deciding whether to resign.
A pastor has been released from jail after posting $100,000 bond on a charge of murdering his nephew outside the pastor's church in Bon Wier, according to information law enforcement officers provided to KFDM News.
Judge A.J. Satterwhite told KFDM News he arraigned Rev. Luther Jones, 64, of Bon Wier, Monday morning at the Newton County Jail. Jones is charged with murder and the judge set his bond at $100,000. Rev. Jones was released after posting bond, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Judge Satterwhite told KFDM News he also arraigned Jones' son, Luther P. Jones, 45, and set his bond at $10,000 on a Class A Misdemeanor charge of Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution.
Rev. Luther Jones is charged with killing his nephew, Curtis P. Jones, 34, of Bon Wier, at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday outside Belgrade Baptist Church on FM 1416 in Bon Wier. Judge Satterwhite told KFDM News it appeared Jones had been shot several times. The judge said he saw what appeared to be one entrance wound on the rights side of Jones' head behind his ear. He told us a medical examiner is doing an autopsy Monday morning.
A family member of the victim told KFDM News the shooting was the result of a long-running family feud.
Juanita Jones, the sister of Curtis Jones, said her brother was headed to another church. She said witnesses told her someone flagged down her brother as he passed by Belgrade Baptist Church and he pulled into the driveway. Juanita Jones said witnesses told her a gunman opened fire through the passenger side window.
Neighbors say after Curtis Jones was shot his foot apparently pressed down on the gas pedal and his Chevy Suburban went across the highway and a field before striking a tree.
