Child killed Tuesday in second fatal ATV accident in Newton County in less than a week

NEWTON COUNTY - A child has died in the second fatal ATV accident in Newton County in less than a week.

According to the Newton County Sheriff's Department, someone called 911 shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday to report a 12-year-old had been involved in an all terrain vehicle accident on County Road 4057 off FM 1416. The caller said the child was breathing but not responsive.

First responders from the Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Department were treating the child in the roadway when Newton County deputies arrived at the scene.

The 12-year-old was taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 5 p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating. 

14-year-old Brandon McCain of Bon Wier died Thursday, July 25 in a collision between his ATV and a car on County Road 4067 near FM 2460.
