Harold Herr, 73, arrested in abduction, assault of 5-year-old Pa. girl

(CBS/AP) LANCASTER, Pa. - Investigators say they've filed charges against a man accused of abducting a 5-year-old girl from a yard in Lancaster County and sexually assaulting her before she was rescued by teenagers on bikes.

Authorities announced Wednesday they have filed charges against 73-year-old Harold Leroy Herr. He's charged with kidnapping, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and other counts. Police say he took the girl as she played in the yard Thursday in Lancaster Township.

She was rescued two hours later when police in nearby Manheim Township say two teenage boys spotted her inside a car. They began following on bicycles; police say the driver stopped and let her out before driving off.

"Soon as the guy started noticing that we were chasing them, he stopped at the end of the hill and let her out and she ran to me and said that she needed her mom and I brought her back over here to police," one of the teens, Temar Boggs, told CBS affiliate WHPTV.

Investigators say Herr is a registered sex offender who served time for abducting and raping another 5-year-old girl in 1989. He was in custody Wednesday and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
