Local former football star Jerry Levias attends book signing in Beaumont

BEAUMONT - A 1965 Hebert High graduate and former NFL player Jerry Levias was signing copies of a new book at Barnes and Noble Friday night.

The book's title is "The Kids Got it Right,"  It profiles the relationship between Levias and Bill Bradley -- two sought after high schoolers in Texas in 1965.

They were both picked to play in an all-star game against top Pennsylvania players.

It was the first time black players were on a team with whites in Texas. Levias and Bradley, who is white, forged a lifetime friendship.

At a book signing in Houston Thursday night, the store sold out of the 165 copies in stock.

Jerry Levias hasn't played football in 39 years, but fans haven't forgotten.
