Jasper officer, Jefferson County deputy among applicants for Jasper police chief position

KFDM News has learned a Jasper police officer and a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy are among more than 40 people to apply for the vacant police chief's position in Jasper.

In June of last year council voted four to one to fire Rodney Pearson.  He was the first black police chief of Jasper.

Council questioned Pearson about how many vacation days he'd taken and other issues.

Captain Gerald Hall of the Jasper Police Department has applied for the job and so has Deputy Rod Carroll of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Mayor Mike Lout told KFDM News a recruiting company Jasper hired will narrow the list to a dozen.

Council will interview the finalists. The mayor expects a new chief in place by the end of the year.
