Orange man arrested for kidnapping warrant, expected to be charged with uncle's murder
ORANGE-By: Leslie Rangel
Investigators in Orange say a man has admitted stabbing and killing his uncle.
22-year-old Christopher Philmon is accused of murdering his uncle early Monday morning on Bilbo street in Orange.
Philmon surrendered to Harris County deputies at about 9 a.m. today.
Investigators tell us Philmon is behind bars in Houston on an unrelated charge of kidnapping his girlfriend after the murder.
Police in Orange say he told his girlfriend he stabbed and killed his uncle, 50-year-old Roy Philmon.
According to investigators, the nephew left in his uncle's car before giving up.
The suspect's mother in Orange believes the killing could have been prevented, if her son had received additional mental health treatment.
This looks like any other 22-year-old, spending time with his favorite uncle, Roy Philmon.
"He told a lot of people that he introduced him as his father, expecially when he was at school," Lynette Philmon says.
Lynette Philmon's brother, Roy, lived here, along with her son, Chris.
It's also where police found Roy stabbed to death Sunday around midnight.
"I don't know what to do or how to think that my son could do that to my brother and especially as much as they loved each other, I just can't see Christopher doing it," Lynette says.
Now this mother searches for answers.
"You can't pull them two apart so for him to hurt his uncle I don't understand it at all," Lynette said.
You never know someone's intent when they post on Facebook, but Chris' family says they were concerned with his mental state.
Just a few months ago he posted he felt like he was from another dimension or galaxy
"He's been sick for a long time, he's always been bipolar," Lynette says.
Chris' Facebook is filled with posts, some say reflect his illness.
"That's why he starts arguments he hears noises, he hears voices, people tell him what to do, you know , he screams, he hollers, he's just really, really off," Lynette said.
His mother is linking what she calls his mental illness with the crime he's accusing of committing.
"If Chris had that medication, if he had that option, then he probably wouldn't have lost his temper and went off the way that they did," Lynette says.
It wasn't that long along ago Chris and his uncle took this picture at Disney World, now Chris' mother and investigators are trying to make sense of what happened between an uncle and his nephew.
Investigators tell us they're driving Philmon to a hospital for treatment of cuts to his hand before taking him to the Orange County jail.
They expect to arrive at the jail tonight.
