Arrests made, narcotics seized following multi-state investigation
Two men were arrested by Drug Enforcement Agents in Atlanta, following a multi-state investigation that began with a discovery by the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
About 60 pounds of cocaine HCL was found during a search following a traffic stop at about 3 p.m. Thursday, August 29th, on eastbound Interstate 10 near the 860 mile marker, Sgt. Chad Hogan said.
A vehicle, which was transporting three vehicles on a trailer, was stopped by the Orange County Sheriff's Office Highway Patrol unit and during the stop consent to search the vehicles was given, Hogan said.
During the search Sgt. Sorge and Deputy Perkins found cocaine hidden inside a rear differential on one of the transported vehicles, Hogan said. The cocaine HCL weighed about 60 pounds and was wrapped in 24 wrapped bundles and it was determined that the cocaine has a street value of about $700,000.
The driver of the transport vehicle said he was hired to transport the vehicle from Houston to a location in Georgia and gave the identity of the vehicle's owner.
Sorge contacted agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration to assist in a multi-state investigation and DEA agents met with Sorge and Perkins, and they agreed to adopt the case for federal prosecution, Hogan said.
The driver of the transport vehicle was released and was allowed to continue on his route with the vehicles, without the narcotics, to Georgia. Sorge and Perkins flew to Atlanta to meet with DEA agents there to participate in a controlled delivery of the narcotics to the recipients in Atlanta, Hogan said.
Once in Atlanta a controlled delivery was arranged by DEA agents and two men named David Trujillo and Jorge Trujillo were arrested by DEA agents after receiving the narcotics in Atlanta, Hogan said.
