Fire leaves couple homeless

BEAUMONT - A fire has left a couple and their son homeless.

The fire was reported after 7 a.m. Friday at a home in the 3700 block of Detroit in north Beaumont.

Capt. Brad Penisson with the Beaumont Fire Department tells KFDM News a couple renting the home was taking their son to work and saw the fire when they returned home.

No one was hurt. The fire caused heavy damage to the home.

Capt. Penisson says a problem with a power cord to a window air conditioning unit appears to have caused the fire.

The Red Cross is helping the couple find a place to stay.

Firefighters left the scene shortly before 9.
