Some more scattered showers today but drier and more stable air is pushing in from the northeast which should virtually eliminate the chance of showers Saturday and Sunday.  With more sunshine, temperatures will be warmer for afternoon highs by Sunday.

Government shutdown affects some parks at Rayburn

JASPER COUNTY - by Steve Stewart/KJAS & Rayburn Broadcasting

The federal government shutdown has affected local government entities, including federally maintained parks at Lake Sam Rayburn.

KJAS News received calls from park visitors who were enjoying the Army Corps of Engineers parks, and were asked to leave by park rangers because they were closing down.

KJAS News tried to call the local Corps of Engineers office on Tuesday afternoon, however, there was no answer, and their website had an announcement saying that they were closed until further notice.

Meanwhile, an employee at Texas Parks & Wildlife said that although the federal parks were closing, all local state parks, including Martin Dies, Jr. State Park at Dam B and Village Creek Park in Hardin County, were still open and not affected because they belong to the State of Texas.
