BEAUMONT - Beaumont Police have released the name of a man found dead on train tracks near Interstate 10 and Hollywood.
A Burlington Northern Sante Fe engineer called 911 at about 9 p.m. Tuesday to report that his train had just struck a man lying on the tracks that run parallel to the 3800 block of Hollywood. Police identify the man as William Travis Brothers, 47, of Beaumont.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances that led to his death. Justice of the Peace Nancy Beaulieu has ordered an autopsy.
The engineers told police the train was moving west when they spotted the man lying near the tracks and immediately tried to stop the train. The train continued rolling for at least 150-200 feet after the engineers hit the brakes and struck the man.
