Local theft tied to larger theft ring

BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

A single case of shoplifting on October 3 at Macy's in Parkdale Mall is being tied to a larger ring of thefts across the state, says a spokesperson for the Beaumont Police Department.

Beaumont officers arrested Velma Latrese Lynch, 30, of Beaumont and Regina Elizabeth Carrier, 30, on October 3 for shoplifting.

They were released on bond.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned the two are also tied to similar cases being investigated by other agencies in southeast and central Texas, including a total of 5 cases in Beaumont.

Investigators believe the women are involved in shoplifting cases at J.C. Penney, Ya Ya Club Clothing Company, Marshalls, Macy's and Kohl's from July 30 to October 3.

Police have not arrested the women on any of those cases, except for Macy's, but plan to present the rest to the district attorneys office next week.

Sgt. Flores would not release the exact cities where they believe the women committed crimes outside of Beaumont nor how many total cases may be linked to them to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.

These two people enter the store. They're not trying to be conspicuous. They're not trying to hide. Their object is to get in, grab as many things as they can, and run out as quickly as they can, said Sgt. Flores.

He says the wholesale value of the merchandise taken from Beaumont stores totals $7,500.

He says after stealing the items, Lynch would post them for sale on the internet through social media sites.
