Appeals court upholds judge's ruling throwing out case against former BPD officer

BEAUMONT - An appeals court has upheld a judge's decision that throws out the conviction of a former Beaumont police officer who was charged with tampering with a government document.

An attorney for Eric Heilman tells KFDM News his client wants to return to law enforcement.

Attorneys expect the ruling to have the same impact on former officer Brad Beaulieu, who was also charged with Heilman. We're told Beaulieu also wants to return to law enforcement.

Judge Lupe Flores ruled the statute of limitations prohibited the state from prosecuting the defendants.
