Man dies after jumping into Sabine River
ORANGE - Police in Orange are investigating the death of a man witnesses say jumped into the Sabine River at the Orange Boat Ramp off Simmons Drive shortly after midnight Friday.
Someone called 911 at about 1 a.m. Friday to report a man had jumped into into the water off the pier of the boat launch and didn't surface.
Searchers spent several hours looking for the man and found his body at about 5 a.m. Friday near the boat launch.
A justice of the peace has ordered an autopsy.
The Orange Police Department was assisted by the City of Orange Fire Department, Orange County Sheriffs Office, Emergency Services District #3s Fire Department and Dive Team.
Investigators aren't releasing the man's identity until they notify his relatives.
