Family claims someone moved burial vault
BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
A Beaumont family claims their patriarchs burial vault was moved from its original plot at a local cemetery.
Lawrence Sampson is buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Beaumont, and family members say when they went to visit, they found another headstone extremely close to his.
Family members say an employee poked through the dirt to show them where the burial vaults were located, informing them that someone else was in fact buried where his headstone was located.
The family believes they moved him.
Somebody did. If his bodys not where his headstone at, he didnt walk, said Jeanette Henry, Sampsons daughter. The dead do not walk, ladies and gentlemen. They dont.
A representative from the cemetery says they do not move bodies and that the headstone for Sampson was originally placed too far away from the vault.
My dads been dead since 2007, said Henry. If his headstone is placed too far over in 2007, I think we would have known that from the get-go.
Henry and the rest of her family members plan to meet with cemetery management to discuss the next steps.
