Store clerk killed during Conroe robbery

Deputies are searching for two men who fatally shot a store clerk during a robbery east of Conroe.
The shooting was reported around 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Shell convenience store in the 18300 block of Highway 105 East, according to deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriffs Office.
Customers were inside and outside the store when two men approached and held up the clerk at gunpoint. The men allegedly shot the clerk and then fled before deputies arrived.
Deputies called for paramedics, but the clerk was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released, but regular customers said the victim had worked at the store for years.
Hes been working here for quite a while, hes very well known with the people in the area here, said Brady Fitzgerald with the Montgomery County Sheriffs Office. Everybody in the area knows him, and hes here all the time apparently.
Family members and friends of the victim arrived at the scene distraught over the news.
Officials said the investigation was still in the preliminary stages and suspect information was vague.
Montgomery County Sheriffs Office Major Crimes Units, Montgomery County Sheriffs Office Crime Scene Investigators, and representatives from the Montgomery County District Attorneys Office are involved in the investigation.
