A better coverage of showers and thunderstorms will begin tomorrow with the best coverage of rain around Thursday and Friday.  Some locally heavy rains will be possible with gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes in the heavier cells.  Withe more clouds, temperatures will be a little cooler for afternoon highs.

Jasper County Sheriff investigating shooting

JASPER COUNTY - A 75-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound to his chest while Jasper County investigators search for three men who attacked him.

Sheriff Mitchel Newman tells KFDM News three men broke into Doug Bean's home Friday on County Road 823 off Highway 62 south of Evadale.

They unplugged his television and other items, likely getting ready to steal the property, according to the sheriff, and walked outside at about noon carrying several bucket of change from the home.

Bean was returning at the same time about noon, and the sheriff says the homeowner probably startled the men. They put down the buckets and one attacker shot him in the chest.

The bullet missed Bean's vital organs and Sheriff Newman told us Bean is doing well after surgery.

The attackers left in a tan or gold older model Chevrolet with a C as the first letter on the license plate.

If you have any information about the attackers call the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Newman tells us Bean  mows lawns for the Precinct 4 Commissioner's office. He's well known for cooking at fundraisers in the community.
