A better coverage of showers and thunderstorms will begin tomorrow with the best coverage of rain around Thursday and Friday.  Some locally heavy rains will be possible with gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes in the heavier cells.  Withe more clouds, temperatures will be a little cooler for afternoon highs.

Recount ends with no changes in Pct. 8 JP runoff

JEFFERSON COUNTY - A recount has ended with no change in the results of the Precinct 8 Justice of the Peace Democratic Primary race in Jefferson County, with incumbent Tom Gillam III facing challenger Kenneth Marks in a May 27 runoff, according to information County Clerk Carolyn Guidry provided to KFDM News.

Candidate Dawn Polk had asked for the recount following problems that occurred in the vote counting during the March 4 primaries.

The recount, and the March 4 vote, ended with Gillam receiving 602 votes (46%), Kenneth Marks with 307 votes (23%) and Dawn Polk, who asked for the recount, with 228 votes (17%). Two other candidates were also in the primary.

The recount began Monday morning and ended at about 3 p.m. Monday.

"It shows we have good workers with good eyes," Guidry told KFDM News.
