A little better coverage of showers can be expected Wednesday as deeper moisture should move northward off the Gulf.  The next cold front will be in our area Friday morning with scattered showers and thunderstorms rather likely Thursday evening into Friday.  Cooler and drier air will take over this weekend.

Newton County deputy injured in crash

NEWTON COUNTY - A crash Saturday night involving a Newton County sheriff's deputy led to the arrest of a Deweyville man -- who's charged with intoxication assault with serious bodily injury.

DPS investigators say 57-year-old Larry Odom made a left turn as the deputy attempted to pass Odom on State Highway 87 near County Road 3129 in Newton County.

Investigators say the patrol unit hit Odom's truck and turned on its side, striking a parked vehicle.

The deputy, Odom and a passenger in Odom's truck were all taken to the hospital.

There's no word yet on the deputy's and passenger's injuries.

Odom was transferred to jail after being treated for his injuries.
