Suspect Identified in Stabbing Death

Detectives have identified a suspect in a stabbing death that occurred in Beaumont's west end.  On Monday, April 7, 2014, at about 6:44p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a body found in the back yard of a house in the 5400 block of Sunbury.  When officers arrived, they located 59-year-old John R. Neff lying in the tall grass of the back yard.  Neff was deceased and had suffered what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.  Judge Chesson pronounced Neff dead at the scene.  Occupants of the house stated that a family member, Samuel Thomas, IV,  34-year-old Beaumont resident, told them that he had stabbed Neff.  After searching for several hours... police found Thomas.  He is in police custody.  Officers say they will be booking him into the county jail on a charge of murder.
