Drier air moves in for today. Still a very hot afternoon expected. Temps in the mid 90's. A dry weekend is in store with mid and upper 90's. We'll start to see rain chances return by Monday. But we start the week off in the upper 90's. More rain through mid week will drop our afternoon highs down to the lower 90's through Wednesday.

Man punches elementary student in stomach, runs away

NEWTON - Law enforcement officers are searching for a man who punched an elementary school student in the stomach in Newton and ran away. 

According to a news release from Michelle Barrow, the Newton ISD superintendent, a Newton Elementary student was in the hall between classes on Thursday. He was persuaded to open a locked exterior door by an adult male. When he opened the door, the adult male punched him in the stomach area and then ran away from the campus.

The student wasn't hurt. Law enforcement is investigating. Students and staff are safe and secure. School is continuing. In order to maintain security of the campus, no visitors will be allowed on campus today.
