Update on wreck/fatal shooting at 11th and Laurel; search for gunman, two schools delay start

BEAUMONT - Beaumont Police are searching for a gunman accused of using a rifle to shoot and kill Dominique Reed, 22, of Beaumont, and injure a man following a wreck at 11th and Laurel. The shooting has led to a manhunt and prompted schools in the area to delay classes and caused Central High School to go on lockdown for several hours.

According to Sgt. Rob Flores, two drivers were involved in a minor accident at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday at 11th and Laurel. Flores says a man driving one car and another woman began arguing. He says the man pulled out a rifle and shot and killed the woman and injured a man who pulled over to help after the wreck.


Police are searching for a Hispanic man, heavyset, cross-eyed, wearing a white t-shirt.


The shooting has prompted two nearby schools to delay classes. St. Anne Catholic School has delayed classes until 9 a.m. and Premier has delayed classes until 9:30. Central High School went on lockdown for several hours.
