Beaumont Police arrest suspect in stabbing death

BEAUMONT - Beaumont Police have arrested a suspect they say has admitted stabbing and killing a man.

Police have taken into custody Samuel Thomas IV, 34, of Beaumont, on charges of stabbing and killing John R. Neff, 59, of Beaumont.

Patrol officers responded to a report of a body found in the back yard of a house in the 5400 block of Sunbury at about 6:45 p.m. Monday, April 8.  When officers arrived, they found Neff lying in the tall grass of the back yard. Neff was dead and had suffered what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. Judge Ray Chesson pronounced Neff dead at the scene.

According to police, the occupants of the house stated that a family member, Samuel Thomas, IV, 34, of Beaumont, told them that he had stabbed Neff. Police found Thomas and took him into custody after searching for several hours. He's in jail and investigators say he'll be charged with murder.
