Suspension lifted: Lumberton transgender sub teacher told to wait awhile before returning to work

LUMBERTON - A Lumberton transgender substitute teacher says the district has reinstated her and she'll get to keep her job, but said she was told to wait awhile before returning to work.

Laura Jane Klug had been suspended this week after a student complained -- saying Klug was a distraction.

Klug's employment was a big topic of discussion Thursday night during a regularly scheduled school board meeting.

Inside the packed school board room, a public forum was held to allow anyone to make comments about Klug's employment status.

One after another, people came up asking the board to think very hard about Klug's employment status with the district.

Klug says the district's superintendent and board president told her to wait until after STAAR testing to return, to ensure there are no distractions.
