Minister shot to death
HOUSTON - by Jacqueline Crea/KHOU 11 News and www.khou.com
Deputies are investigating the death of a minister who was found shot in the head inside his garage in northwest Harris County.
It happened Saturday around 6:45 a.m. at the Mariposa Apartments on Ella Boulevard.
Magnus Hjalmaron was getting ready for a community yard sale when he was shot and killed. A neighbor, Joe Miller, was nearby when he heard a woman scream.
"A lot of blood, out of the head. He was laying on his wound," said Miller.
Some neighbors told Harris County Sherriff's deputies that they saw a dark-colored pickup truck parked in front of Hjalmarsonas garage shortly before his body was discovered.
"I was stunned. But as a Christian we know where he is. In the presence of God," said Alexandra Michaels, a resident of the apartment complex.
Hjalmaron, who was 53-years-old, was known as "Minister Mike." Community members said he was a devout Christian who held bible classes every Tuesday and was a staple in the gated senior living community.
"I had bought some furniture before that I couldnat carry, so he drove over and picked it up for me, him and his wife. That's the kind of people they are. They all do anything they possibly can," said Miller.
Residents said Hjalmaron often planned community events at the apartment complex.
The shooting has residents living in fear.
"I guess we need some kind of security. I've always thought it was a very safe place, until yesterday. Everything is locked. It's just unthinkable that could happen," said Anne Washington, a resident of the apartment community.
With increased security on site, residents said they hope that the sheriff's office finds who committed the crime.
"People here need closure. They need to know the culprit is off the street," said Miller.
