Where Southeast Texans can get sand, sandbags ahead of tropical storm

UPDATE: In Jefferson County, you can only get sandbags at the Beaumont and China locations. The precincts in Nederland, Port Arthur and Hamshire have all run out of sandbags.

Jefferson and Orange counties should expect heavy amounts of rain beginning late Wednesday and extending into Thursday with Tropical Storm Cindy developing in the Gulf.

In Jefferson County, sand and sandbags will be made available to citizens in all precincts. Citizens should bring a shovel and be prepared to fill and load their own bags, according to a news release sent from County Judge Jeff Branick's office.Sand will be available at the following precinct locations:

  • Precinct 1: 20205 Highway 90, China
  • Precinct 2: 7759 Viterbo Road, Nederland
  • Precinct 3: Jade and Highway 73, Port Arthur
  • Precinct 3: Highway 124 in Hamshire
  • Precinct 4: 7780 Boyt Road, Beaumont

- In Orange County, sand and sandbags are available at:

Precinct 1 County Maintenance Barn located at North Hwy 87 at North Teal (If bags run out after 3:30 pm bags will not be replenished until the next morning. Only at this barn)

Precinct 3 County maintenance barn located on 2502 West Roundbunch Rd.

Precinct 4 County Maintenance barn 375 Claiborne Street.

Residents are welcome to bag the sand to use to protect their homes from rising water. Bring your own shovel.

Flooding and power outages are likely, according to the National Weather Service. County officials are recommending that those who remain indoors turn off all unnecessary appliances and make every effort to conserve energy.

In Orange County, sand and bags are available at the Precinct 3 County maintenance barn located on 2502 West Roundbunch Road.

Also, Precinct 4 County Maintenance barn at 375 Claiborne Street will have supplies. Residents are welcome to bag the sand to protect their homes from rising water. County officials there are also advising citizens to bring their own shovels.


- In Hardin County:

Bags and sand are available at each Hardin County Road and Bridge facility, but bring a shovel and be prepared to fill your own bag:
