IN THE NEWS: ESPN SUING VERIZON

UNDATED (AP) -- It's a lawsuit that might affect how pay-TV programming is packaged in this age of cord-cutting. ESPN is suing Verizon over the video provider's plans to cut the sports channel from its main programming lineup. ESPN's parent firm, Disney, says Verizon is breaking its contract with the company by dropping it out of its main packaging tier. Verizon has said it wants to unbundle its current lineup -- in an effort to keep customers from bolting as more viewers seek to cut costs by cutting the cord. For its part, Verizon says that its new options do not break the deal it has with ESPN.

IN THE NEWS: BEHIND THE STARBUCK GLITCH

NEW YORK (AP) -- You might have wondered how a problem with Starbucks' registers could have caused thousands of stores in the chain to be shut down. It's because the registers do more than just record sales. These days, registers process credit cards, send orders to kitchens, help keep track of what products are selling and which aren't -- and even help run loyalty programs. Starbucks says the outage it suffered was caused by an "internal failure" that occurred during a daily system reset.
