HOUSTON - by KHOU and www.khou.com - Police said a high school senior was driving too fast when his car left a northwest Houston roadway and slammed into a tree.
The violent crash killed the 18-year-old and split his Mazda sedan in two.
According to the Houston Police Department, the crash happened on W 43rd Street at De Milo Drive around 2 a.m. Thursday.
Police said the young man had just left his work at a nearby hamburger joint and was at a red light next to a co-worker in the other lane.
Witnesses said the teen tried to show off when the light turned green, and he floored it.
The teen’s co-worker told police he lost sight of the car and later came upon the smoke and debris of the wreck.
CPR was attempted at the scene, but the victim as soon pronounced dead. HPD said alcohol was not a factor in the crash—only speed.
The victim's identity was not released, but the co-worker told police the teen attended Waltrip High School.
