BEAUMONT - From Texas Attorney General's Office - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott recognized Beaumont child support attorney Troy Martin for his commitment to Texas children. Martin, who was named "Managing Attorney of the Year," received the honor Thursday at the Statewide Child Support Managers' Meeting in San Antonio.
"Troy Martin is an outstanding lawyer and a natural leader whose stewardship of the Child Support Division's Beaumont office has helped ensure thousands of young Texans receive the child support they need to grow healthy and strong," Attorney General Abbott said. "Despite the thousands of cases that each lawyer under his supervision is responsible for handling, Troy's steady leadership has ensured that child support collections continue to rise. Thanks to Troy's leadership and dedication, Texas is home to one of the nation's most efficient and effective child support programs."
Martin was selected from among 65 managing attorneys across the state based on recommendations from his peers and supervisors, with a particular focus on his willingness to go beyond his normal duties to serve Texas children.
Martin joined the Child Support Division in 2004, and in 2007, he was named Assistant Attorney General of the Year. That same year, he was promoted to managing attorney of the Beaumont office. As managing attorney, Martin represents the State of Texas in legal actions to establish the legal relationship between children and their biological fathers. He also works to establish, enforce and modify court orders for child support and medical support.
Martin, a graduate of Baylor Law School, was chosen to be the Child Support Division's "Managing Attorney of the Year" because of his unique and significant contributions to the Child Support Division. Martin's attention to detail and exceptional leadership have created one of the most successful child support offices in the state.
Martin's colleagues praised his passion for providing young Texans the financial and medical support they need and deserve.
"Troy Martin is a brilliant managing assistant attorney general who has a solid working knowledge of the law and the child support system," said Regional Administrator Chip Arnold. "He has a great ability to analyze processes and procedures and develop the most efficient and effective manner of obtaining success. I am proud to have him on the management team."
The Beaumont child support office handles 23,000 child support cases and collected $47 million in child support for the state fiscal year that ended Aug. 31.
