PORT ARTHUR - The Deputy Superintendent of the Port Arthur school district tells KFDM News he's taking care of matters related to the district in light of Friday's absence of the superintendent from work, and neither the Deputy Superintendent nor a board member will comment on the nature of Dr. Johnny Brown's absence.
"He has been at work all week," Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mark Porterie told KFDM News. "He's not at work today (Friday). I can't comment on the nature of the absence. He's not been suspended. There was nothing on Thursday night's board meeting agenda related to the absence. I'm advising you to call Melody Chappell (the attorney for the PAISD)."
KFDM News has left messages with Chappell and two messages on Dr. Brown's cell phone. We've not yet heard back from them.
School board member Lloyd Marie Johnson said "no comment" when we asked her about the nature of the absence. She referred us to Chappell.
"I'm the Deputy Superintendent and taking care of matters related to the district in his absence," Dr. Porterie told KFDM News. "I don't know if he'll be back Monday. I'm ready, willing and able to help with any issue a parent, teacher or anyone else might have that needs my attention. We're running business as normal."
No comment offered on PAISD superintendent absence from work Friday
