A Drainage District 6 crew working in the area ruptured the 4 inch line at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Capt. Brad Penisson with the Beaumont Fire Department.
Nobody was hurt but workers with Centerpoint, the owner of the line, used meters and determined some of the natural gas had made its way into the sewer system and could get into homes. That's why firefighters asked families to evacuate.
The evacuation remained in effect as of 11 a.m.
No one has been hurt.
