Alexander, who became a Jasper police officer in the late 1960’s, later became chief in 1979, and he served in that capacity until his retirement in 1998.
In June of this year, Alexander returned to serve in the interim spot after the City Council terminated former Chief Rodney Pearson. At the time, Alexander made it clear that he was only there temporarily, and he had no intention of staying permanently.
Mayor Lout says that the City Council will now have to make a decision on what to do next. Meanwhile, Lout said that the highest ranking officer in the agency, Lieutenant Mike Poindexter is currently heading up the department.
