BUNA - Utility company crews responding to reports of a strong natural gas odor near Buna High School haven't found any leaks, according to information Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman provided to KFDM News.
Newman said the odor prompted Buna High School to move students to the cafeteria as a precaution. No evacuations were ordered in the neighborhood surrounding the school, where people also reported the odor.
Newman said students were allowed to return to class at about 2 p.m.
Crews from Centerpoint Energy searched for signs of a leak but couldn't find one. Newman told KFDM News the crews will search again Tuesday night when the school is vacant to ensure the safety of students when they return Wednesday.
No other schools in the Buna ISD were affected.
