JASPER COUNTY - by Mike Lout/KJAS - Officers with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department are investigating the burglary of several homes in the north end of the county near Lake Rayburn.
Sheriff Mitchel Newman said the investigation into the incidents began early Wednesday morning when an employee of a utility company found items that had apparently been stashed in a wooded area behind homes on Lakeshore Drive.
Newman said further investigation revealed that at least three nearby homes had been broken into sometime over the last few days.
Newman said it appeared that in one case, the culprits cut the wires to a burglar alarm to silence it as they made entry into the residence.
Captain Bob Walker said that he and others investigating the incident are looking for a small white truck driven by a white male that was thought to be in the area when the burglaries occurred. Walker asked anyone seeing the vehicle or knowing anything about it to contact the sheriff's department.
Word is that similar burglaries have also occurred in nearby Sabine County.
