SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A San Antonio man has been sentenced to nine months behind bars for the 2010 drowning of a stray puppy that defecated in his backpack.
A judge in San Antonio on Monday sentenced Elton Aguillard to state jail time. Aguillard in November pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals. The pup's legs and muzzle were bound when it was found dead in an overflowing bathtub.
The San Antonio Express-News (http://bit.ly/T4Oe4P ) reports Aguillard found the dog along a street, put the animal in his backpack and sneaked the creature into his apartment. Pets weren't allowed.
Aguillard says he planned to bathe the dog, which relieved itself in his backpack, but briefly left to take his father to an appointment.
A maintenance worker checking on flooding found the overflowing tub and the puppy.
