BEAUMONT - BY SCOTT LAWRENCE:
The average price for one gallon of unleaded gasoline is $2.99 in Beaumont, down a nickel from last week, according to the weekly price survey released Wednesday by AAA Texas.
The average at this time last year was $3.02. The record high was $4 a gallon in July 2008.
AUSTIN - From AAA Texas:
The average price for fuel in the Lone Star State is now 20 cents less than the national average of $3.23. Motorists in Hawaii continue to the pay the most expensive prices in the nation while drivers in Missouri are paying the least. Texas ranks number five for the states with the lowest gas prices.
The prices have been driven lower by a number of factors, including the switch to less expensive winter-blend fuel, an increase in gasoline inventories, cheaper crude oil prices, lower demand and economic concerns. Prices in every state are less than they were one week ago.
“Driving to holiday destinations will cost Texans less money and these lower gas prices allow many to spend quality time with loved ones,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe. “We wish everyone happy holidays and safe journeys.”
AAA Texas forecasts 7.1 million Texans will travel by automobile between Sat., December 22nd and Tue., January 1st. Drivers are urged to map out their trips before they travel, wear their seatbelts, obey the speed limits and avoid distractions behind the wheel. Motorists can use AAA’s Fuel Cost Calculator at http://fuelcostcalculator.aaa.com/ to get an estimate of the fuel cost of their holiday trips based on real time gas prices.
To help consumers identify quality auto repair shops that can assist in the maintenance and repair of their vehicles, AAA offers the Approved Auto Repair program as a free public service. AAA-approved repair facilities meet and maintain high professional standards for training, equipment, cleanliness and customer service. Motorists can look for the Approved Auto Repair sign at local auto repair facilities, or search for a nearby AAA-approved shop online at AAA.com/Repair.
