The Beaumont Police Department would like to remind you to speak with your children about strangers and safety precautions.
BPD recently received information that a white male with long curly blonde hair, approximately 20-30 years of age, 6’0, 200lbs, approached a child in one of our local businesses.
The man approached an 8 year old little girl as she was going to the restroom and held out some money. He asked her if she wanted the money, she refused and ran back to her grandmother. He approached her again in the toy area of the store. He overheard the child asking her grandmother for an item and the grandmother told her no. He offered to buy the item for the child. The grandmother reported the incident to BPD.
This incident is currently under investigation, but we would like to remind you to speak with your children about these types of incidents. The fair and several festivals are just around the corner and we want to arm our children with information that will help keep them safe.
Here are some things to discuss:
*Anyone is a stranger if you don’t know them. A stranger can be big, little, young, old, a man or a woman, friendly or scary looking.
*Never take anything from a stranger.
*If a stranger asks you to go with them or tries to touch or grab you, say “No” and run to tell a grown-up you trust.
*Always tell your parent or caregiver where you are going.
*If you see someone who makes you feel scared, walk away fast.
*Learn your phone number, address and your parent’s cell or work phone numbers.
If you would like to have a Beaumont Police Officer speak at your school, church function, scouting group or any type of meeting, feel free to call (409)880-3825.
