Dixon Conn Jr. passed away February 5, 2013 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont Dixon was pre-deceased by his parents, E. D. Conn Sr. and Yvonne LaCroix Conn, his sister Julia , and his daughter Julia Conn Watt. He leaves behind his beloved wife Susan Cornell, sons E. Dixon Conn III and wife Candace, James Ted Conn, daughter Janie Conn and husband James Gloster, step-daughter Destiny Perry Inman; brothers, Charles H. Conn and wife Sandra, and Robert F. Conn; grandchildren Matthew Conn, Margaret Conn and husband Abe Stecher, Michael Conn and wife Miranda, Miles Conn and wife Gloria, Harmony Anderson, Mitchell Conn, Jeremy and Josh Watt, eight great-grandchildren, and two nephews and families
A lifelong resident of Kirbyville, Dixon was born in 1932. He was a 1949 graduate of Kirbyville high school and attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He had a multitude of careers, including dairy farmer, auto mechanic, car dealership manager, fish spotter/commercial pilot, private detective, auto body shop owner, sailboat repair shop owner, and dry goods store owner.
In service to his community Dixon, at various times, served as City Councilman, Mayor, Library Advisory Board member, and Board member of the Kirbyville Area Heritage Society. Within the sailing community he served as Commodore of the Rayburn Sailing Association. Dixon enjoyed extensive friendships in the area and afar. His love of flying inspired many others to take to the air. Among his vast array of interests, he especially loved reading, sailing, music, history and was a master story teller. His captivating tales will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 9th at Central Baptist Church in Kirbyville. A reception in the Central Baptist Fellowship Hall will follow the service. Visitation will take place Friday, February 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Adams-Stringer Funeral Home, Kirbyville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kirbyville Public Library, Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department, or the Kirbyville Area Heritage Society.
