SOUTHEAST TEXAS - by Scott Lawrence/KFDM News
KFDM News has learned law enforcement officers have found a body believed to be that of Tami Higginbotham in Newton County.
Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon tells KFDM information provided to law enforcement officers led to the discovery of a woman's body at about 5:45 p.m. Friday in a hunting club off State Highway 62 in Newton County. As we reported at 10 p.m., officers from Orange, Newton and Jasper County investigated the crime scene. An autopsy is pending at the forensic center in Jefferson County.
Shannon told KFDM law enforcement officers could recognize features on the body, including tattoos and other features that fit the description of Higginbotham, 41, of Vinton.
Investigators also discovered other evidence at the scene, according to Sheriff Shannon.
Relatives in Southwest Louisiana reported Higginbotham missing last Saturday, February 9.
Family members say she traveled from Vinton to Orange to meet Joshua Latham, 26, of Orange, about buying a cell phone.
Investigators from the Orange Police Department began searching for Latham and described him as a person of interest in Higginbotham's disappearance.
Latham was arrested in Tennesssee on Thursday night for an outstanding warrant. He was found at a home along with his girlfriend and their two-week-old son.
Investigators from Orange County interviewed Latham in jail.
