SOUTHEAST TEXAS - From U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
This year's Marsh Madness!, originally scheduled for March 23, 2013, is being cancelled. Hosted by the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the popular outdoor event held near Sabine Pass, Texas, is expected to be rescheduled for March 2014.
The federal budget sequestration cuts current levels of funding for every U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service program, including the National Wildlife Refuge System. As a result, some NWRs are unable to provide staff for weekend activities or special programs such as the McFaddin NWR's annual March Madness! event.
