Lady Cards fall at Oral Roberts
TULSA, Okla. Kalis Loyd kept her double-digit scoring streak alive Thursday, but it wasnt nearly enough for the Lamar Lady Cardinals in a 77-48 loss to Oral Roberts in a Southland Conference women's basketball game.
Loyd, who has reached double digits in every game she has played this season, had 11 points, giving her 1,724 for her career, just six shy of the school record of 1,730 points held by Uirannah Jackson. But the Lady Cardinals (12-5 overall, 5-2 Southland) suffered their first conference road loss of the season.
We just werent focused tonight, Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. For the first 16 games, we laid everything on the line. We just didnt do that tonight.
Lamar held an early 9-4 lead before Oral Roberts (8-9, 5-2) went on a 19-0 to take control of the game. The Golden Eagles led 44-21 at intermission and by as many as 37 points (72-35) in the second half.
Taylor Cooper had 20 points to lead Oral Roberts, while Sarah Shelton had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kevi Luper and Jaci Bigham added 13 points apiece in the win.
Dominique Edwards had 11 points for Lamar. Jameisha Edwards added a career-high six points off the bench for the Lady Cardinals.
Lamar returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday with a Southland Conference game at Central Arkansas. That game will be broadcast live on KLVI (AM 560) and simulcast on www.LamarCardinals.com.
