Kalis Loyd's double-double leads to Lady Cards win
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas Kalis Loyd s sixth double-double of the season and 24th of her career powered the Lamar Lady Cardinals to 68-46 win over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a Southland Conference women s basketball game Thursday.
Loyd had 21 points and 11 rebounds to go along with six assists as the Lady Cardinals (15-6 overall, 8-3 Southland) ran their winning streak to three games.
Loyd wasn t the only Lady Cardinal to have a stellar effort against the Islanders (1-20, 0-10). Alice Robinson had nine points and seven rebounds, while Jasmin Henderson came off the bench to add eight points and seven rebounds.
I thought we played well defensively, Lamar coach Larry Tidwell said. We held them to about 28 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers.
The Lady Cardinals led 32-17 at halftime and were never threatened in the second half.
Ashley Darley had 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the Islanders, who have lost 11 in a row. Jessica Jammer added nine points for A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Lady Cardinals return to action at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at conference-leading Sam Houston State. That game will air live on KLVI (AM 560) and simulcast on www.LamarCardinals.com. After that, the Lady Cardinals open a five-game homestand with a non-conference game against Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
