Teacher pleads guilty to having a relationship with a student

A judge sentenced a 30-year-old teacher accused of having an improper relationship with a student at a Christian school in Orange to probation, and she must also permanently surrender her teaching certificate.

Valerie Sonnier pleaded guilty to two separate incidents of having a relationship with a student at Community Christian School. 

A judge in Orange sentenced Sonnier to six years probation Friday.

Sonnier will not be allowed to teach again and must also pay a $1,000 fine. If she violates probation, she could serve up to 10 years in jail.
