Some more scattered showers today but drier and more stable air is pushing in from the northeast which should virtually eliminate the chance of showers Saturday and Sunday.  With more sunshine, temperatures will be warmer for afternoon highs by Sunday.

Harris County deputy foils robbery, kills suspect

HOUSTON (AP) -- A deputy answering a traffic call has shot and killed a suspected robber at a Houston-area store and freed a worker being held hostage.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened early Monday at a convenience store.

The deputy was dispatched about a traffic hazard involving a parked vehicle. Officials say the vehicle apparently belonged to a man who was in the store choking a female worker while trying to steal a bag of money.

The deputy walked into the business, interrupted the robbery and ordered the suspect to show his hands. Investigators say the suspect threw the bag of money at the officer and reached into his pocket.

The deputy fired once -- fatally shooting the suspect.

Names of the deputy and the suspect weren't immediately released.
