New information in death of Dustin Keith Jones
KFDM News has new information tonight about a man who died after Kirbyville police say he struggled with them during his arrest and then suffered a medical emergency.
The Kirbyville officers were trying to serve an arrest warrant on 26 year old Dustin Keith Jones for a probation violation.
Police chief Paul Brister says the autopsy shows he suffered a heart attack.
And according to Brister a report from Texas Ranger Danny Young indicates Jones suffered from heart disease. Young's report says there was no evidence of trauma. The report is not yet final.
According to a news release from Kirbyville police officers tried to serve Jones with an arrest warrant Tuesday morning.
Police say he assaulted two officers and then ran.
They caught him several blocks away. Police say he once again assaulted an officer and was on top of him.
Kirbyville P.D. says the Police Chief, Paul Brister pulled the suspect away from the officer and restrained him.
According to police Jones appeared to suffer from a medical emergency and collapsed.
Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman told us two deputies helped out..along with a state trooper. They performed CPR on Jones and continued on the ambulance ride to a hospital.
He was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Christus Saint Elizabeth.
Kirbyville police asked the Texas Rangers to investigate which the chief says is standard procedure in such a case.
