Buna high school student arrested on charge of making threat

BUNA - School police in Buna have arrested a high school student accused of making a bomb threat at Buna High School, according to Dr. Robin Perez, the Buna ISD superintendent.


The threats led to increased security.


The district says the minor will be disciplined based on the Student Code of Conduct.


JASPER COUNTY - From Jasper County Sheriff's Office

Sheriff Mitchel Newman stated that on Wednesday afternoon 05/01/2013 Buna ISD Police and the Jasper County Sheriff's Office were able to identify the person responsible for the recent Bomb Threat at the Buna School District and an arrest has been made.

The suspect was a 17 year old female student that had written the threat on the restroom wall of the girl's restroom.

This morning 05/02/2013 the person that wrote threating messages at the JR High campus has been identified and the case on this suspect is still being handled at the time of this press release.

The Sheriff's Office will continue to stay at Buna Schools the remainder of the week to assist the Buna School District with Safety of the children.

The Buna ISD Police Chief made an arrest Wednesday in connection with the recent bomb threats at Buna High School.


The person arrested is a student at Buna High School, but the name cannot be released because the student is a minor.  While the Buna Independent School District cannot comment on specific disciplinary matters, school administrators will continue to follow the guidelines of the Student Code of Conduct as they relate to disciplinary actions.


Thanks to our Police Chief, Jasper Law Enforcement Officials and Buna High School Administration for their support, thorough investigation and for ensuring that all of our students and staff were safe during this stressful time. We also greatly appreciate the support of our students, parents and faculty members during the past two weeks.


The matter is now in the capable hands of law enforcement.  Buna Independent School District can now continue to be a great place of learning and a center for our community.
