Newton County JP dies

NEWTON COUNTY - by Steve W Stewart/KJAS & Rayburn Broadcasting Company

Newton County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace, and former Deputy Sheriff Jimmy Mack Hopson died on Saturday at his Wiergate residence at the age of 55. Hopson had been battling cancer for the last several months.

Born in February of 1958 in Hemphill, he was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He had been employed by Newton County for over 20 years, the past 11 years as justice of the peace, and the previous 8 years as a deputy.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 4th, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Newton.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Newton with burial to follow at Week's Chapel Cemetery.
