Houston fire inspector fatally shot

HOUSTON (AP)  Houston police are searching for a suspect identified after an off-duty inspector with the Houston fire department was shot to death in his driveway.

Police say 55-year-old David Stoneham was shot Monday morning. Police have charged a 43-year-old man with murder in the shooting and are searching for him after Stoneham's 17-year-old daughter says she saw her stepfather shoot her father.

Brian Harris, a Houston police homicide detective, tells the Houston Chronicle that they consider the suspect armed and dangerous.

Police say Stoneham's daughter told them she had been in the car with her father in the driveway before walking into the garage. She then heard what sounded like a shotgun being racked and turned to see the shooting.

Police say they don't know what sparked the gunfire.
