Candlelight vigil for children killed in separate ATV accidents

NEWTON COUNTY - by Steve W Stewart/KJAS & Rayburn Broadcasting Company

The very close-knit community of Newton County is mourning after the loss of two children in tragic accidents less than a week apart. To help heal the community, and to show support for the Newton Junior High School students and their families, a candlelight vigil will be held this evening in Newton.

Organizers say the gathering will begin at 8:00 on the Newton County Courthouse Square, and will be in honor of 14-year-old Brandon Tyrik McCain, and 12-year-old Tory Doniell Foster.

Brandon McCain, who would have been an 8th grader this year, died on Thursday of last week when the 4-wheeler that he was driving was struck by a car in the Bon Wier Community, and Tory Foster, who would have been a 7th grader this year, died on Tuesday after he fell off the back of a 4-wheeler that he was a passenger on, near the Trout Creek Community.

According to organizers, those who attend are asked to bring a candle for themselves, and if possible, extra candles for those who need them.

Funeral services for Brandon will be held on Thursday morning at Fredonia Baptist Church in Newton County, under the direction of Coleman's. Meanwhile, services for Tory are currently pending.
